JACKSON, Miss. – The Devilettes of Mississippi Valley State traveled to Jackson, Mississippi, seeking to capitalize on their home victory over the Lady Tigers earlier in the conference season.
Jackson State wanted revenge for the early loss, so two giants clashed on the hardwood. In the opening period, the teams battled for dominance on both ends. After ten minutes, the score was 22-16, in favor of the Lady Tigers of Jackson.
The second set of ten-minutes ended in favor of JSU as well as they tallied 14-points, while holding Mississippi Valley to 10.
The Devilettes entered the locker room down 10 (36-26), however when they exited the break they demonstrated the sheer will and fire burning inside. MVSU took the quarter, 22-16. Desiray Mosley turned the tide for the Devilettes with clutch three-pointers down the stretch.
Despite, the Devilettes having the advantage of a 19-16 fourth, the Lady Tigers were able to clinch the victory, with a one-point margin – 68-67.
Kenya Arnold paced MVSU with 14-points, eight rebounds and three steals; while Makala Bonner finished with 12-points five rebounds. LaKendra Basset may be one of the smallest on the court, but her hands are swift and deadly. She pulled in 11-rebounds and nine-points, placing her one shy of a double-double. Kristy Parker also tallied nine points to assist the Devilettes against the Lady Tigers.
MVSU will travel to Grambling, Louisiana to face the Lady Tigers of Grambling State on Monday, February 26
th. Game time is scheduled for 5:30 pm.
