PINE BLUFF, Ark. – Mississippi Valley State's men's basketball team pushed deep into their reserves, when they traveled to Pine Bluff, Arkansas, to face the Golden Lions of the University of Arkansas-Pine Bluff in the quarterfinals of the 2018 Southwestern Athletic Conference Men's Tournament. The Delta Devils dropped the road contest, 77-74.
Scoring opened at the charity stripe, as Jordan Evans went two-for-two for the Delta Devils. After a jumper by the Golden Lions, Mississippi Valley responded with a jumper of the their own at the hands of Emmanuel Ejeh. Back-to-back threes placed UAPB up by four points.
The first half consisted of give and take on both sides of the ball for the Delta Devils. They allowed baskets and knocked down quite a few of their own. At the break, the Golden Lions held a 39-33 edge entering the locker rooms.
Mississippi Valley was able to outpace Arkansas-Pine Bluff down the stretch in the second, however the slight edge in the contest went to the hosts. With 18 ticks remaining, MVSU was down by two, but trips to the free throw line lifted the Golden Lions up.
Jordan Evans notched a 20-point night to pace the Delta Devils. Dante Scott scored 14-points, four rebounds and three steals, while Ejeh landed 12-points, eight rebounds. Lorenzo Hunt added nine points, 10 rebounds, three assists and three steals.
