MEMPHIS (Softball) – The Devilettes of Mississippi Valley State traveled to Memphis, Tennessee, to participate in the University of Memphis 2018 Tournament. On day one, MVSU took on the Bowling Green Falcons and the hosting University of Memphis Tigers.
Bowling Green 6, Mississippi Valley State 1
In the first contest of the day, Andrea Elmore took the loss for the Devilettes inside the pitcher's circle. Neither MVSU nor Bowling Green scored in the opening inning. BG scored once in the second and three runs in the third.
With the Devilettes unable to gain traction offensively, the fourth inning fell scoreless. In the top od the fifth, the Falcons scored an additional two runs.
In the bottom of the seventh, Mississippi Valley scored their only run of the contest. Ikeyia Alexander walked with the bases loaded, pushing Sharia Cormier across the plate.
The Devilettes completed the contest with one run on two hits and two errors.
University of Memphis 12, Mississippi Valley State 1
In game two, the Devilettes took on the 12-5 Tigers of the University of Memphis. The opening inning was a difficult one for the Devilettes as they conceded seven runs.
With a scoreless second, and a two-run inning for the Tigers in the third, the Devilettes had to buckle down and play strong defense.
Mississippi Valley scored once in the fourth, when Ikeyia Alexander singled to the shortstop to score Kennedy Lester.
Memphis wrapped scoring in the bottom of the inning with three runs. The contest ended in the fifth inning.
MVSU tallied one run on three hits and one error. Alyssa Montes took the loss for the Devilettes in the pitcher's circle.
