ITTA BENA (Baseball) – The Delta Devils of Mississippi Valley and the Hornets of Alabama State went toe-to-toe on the baseball diamond, playing a total of 21 innings. In game one, ASU took the contest 9-1 and game two, ASU took the contest 8-7 in twelve innings.
Game 1:
Mississippi Valley tallied one run on six hits and four errors. Zac Uecker was credited with the loss for the Delta Devils.
MVSU scored their lone run in the bottom of the third, taking a 1-0 lead. ASU scored once in the fifth to tie the contest. The sixth inning was a big one for Alabama State, as they scored four runs, in the seventh they scored two runs and one in the eighth and ninth innings.
Jancarlos Aponte paced the team with two hits on four plate appearances.
Game 2:
Game two started with Alabama State scoring three-runs in the top of the third. They scored once in the fifth to go up 4-0. The Delta Devils responded with three runs in the bottom of the sixth to cut the lead.
The Hornet scored once in the top of the seventh, however Mississippi Valley tacked on four runs in the bottom of the inning. The Delta Devils held the Hornets scoreless until the top of the ninth, where they score two runs to knot the contest at 7-all.
MVSU and ASU battled through three extra-innings. It was in the top of the 12
th that Alabama State scored one run. The Delta Devils were unable to score in the bottom of the inning.
MVSU finished the contest with seven-runs on 10 hits and four errors. Aaron Barkley took the loss for MVSU on the mound.
The Delta Devils will wrap up the regular season with a two-game series against Abilene Christian University on May 8
th and 9
th. Both games are scheduled for 6:00 pm.
