MONTGOMERY, Ala. | Mississippi Valley fell to Texas Southern 11-2 in the opening round of the Southwestern Athletic Conference (SWAC) tournament on Wednesday afternoon at the Barbara Williams Softball Complex in Montgomery, Alabama.
Texas Southern (23-16) jumped on top early with a two unearned-runs in the first inning. The second inning was a difficult one for the Devilettes, yet they remained resilient.
Mississippi Valley scored their two runs in the top of the sixth. Jodeci Afoa-Tuia doubled to right field to score Kennedy Lester and Jaime Parmley.
MVSU's Lexany Torrenes and Sharia Cormier each paced the team going 2-for-3 at the plate.
Alyssa Montes (6-7) suffered the loss, working 1.1 innings and allowing seven runs off of five hits.
The Devilettes returns to action Thursday, when they face Prairie View A&M at 9:00 am.
