Baseball Downed at Arkansas State

JONESBORO, Ark. - Mississippi Valley State (0-2) dropped the second game of a mid-week matchup at Arkansas State, 10-0, on Wednesday at Tomlinson/Kell Stadium. This is the first shutout of the season for the Delta Devils after falling on Tuesday 4-2 to the Red Wolves in game one.

Senior Morgan Lomax led the Delta Devils hitting a perfect 3-for-3 at the plate against the Red Wolves and stole his second base of the season.

Redshirt sophomore Billy Leflore had his first two hits of the season, senior Wendell Rieves doubled for the first time this season, senior Jordan Sawyer had a hit and junior Aaron Barkley drew a walk.

Lomax led the first inning off with a single to center field. Then in the third, MVSU singled twice with Leflore leading off with a shot to second and Lomax beating out a throw to first base.

Rieves doubled to left-center field in the fourth inning followed by Barkley's walk and Sawyer's single to right-center field. Leflore led the fifth inning with a single and Lomax singled to right-center in the sixth for his third hit.

Arkansas State (7-2) scored one run in the third, two in the fifth, six in the sixth and one run in the seventh inning shutting out MVSU, 10-0.

Freshman Gerald Pintarich pitched 5.0 innings in his first collegiate start striking out one batter while giving up five hits. Barkley saw some time on the mound in the eighth inning recording three strikeouts retiring the side.

The Delta Devils return to action this weekend with a SWAC three-game series in Montgomery, Ala. against Alabama State. The games scheduled for Friday and Saturday are slated for a 6p.m.first pitch and Sunday's contest is at 1 p.m.
