HUNTSVILLE. Ala. (February 9, 2019) – Senior Emmanuel Ejeh finished with his third double-double of the season while tying a season-best 14 points leading Mississippi Valley State men's basketball in a 78-63 loss to Alabama A&M Saturday night in Elmore Gymnasium. Senior Jordan Evans scored 16 points marking his 15
th game this season finishing in double-figure scoring.
Senior Dante Scott had nine points, nine rebounds and four assists against the Bulldogs while junior Michael Green led the bench scoring with six points hitting a pair of three-pointers. Ejeh recorded his sixth double-digit rebounding effort of the season and had led Mississippi Valley State (3-21, 1-9 SWAC) in rebounding in their last five games.
Junior Aleksa Koracin got things rolling early with a vicious slam dunk and then junior Torico Simmons made a three-pointer giving MVSU their only lead of the night, 6-4 at the 15:23 mark. The Bulldogs began to take charge using a 19-9 run over the next nine minutes building a double-digit advantage, 27-17 with 6:47 remaining in the half. Ejeh scored seven first-half points on 3-of-4 made field goals, but the Delta Devils were limited to only 9-of-29 shot attempts (31 percent) compared to 13-of-31 (42 percent) from AAMU. In the final minute of the half, senior Gregory Jones-Rollins completed a three-point play by hitting a jumper while drawing a foul and converting the free throw attempt cutting the deficit to 33-27 at the break.
Evans kept the Delta Devils in the game throughout the second half scoring 13 points making 3-of-4 attempts from three-point range. He scored five consecutive points bringing MVSU to within a 37-36 margin after hitting a shot from outside the three-point line at the 15:37 mark. AAMU answered with a 13-0 run in a three-minute span taking a 49-36 lead.
The Delta Devils never gave up and trimmed the AAMU lead to 55-49 with 5:49 left in regulation, but the Bulldogs knocked down seven free throws in the final minute and held on for a 78-63 victory.
AAMU made 10-of-19 three-points (52 percent) and had five scoring in double-figures led by Brandon Miller's 18 points and seven assists.
MVSU returns to action on Monday, Feb. 11 at Alabama State in Montgomery Ala. at 7:30 p.m.
