MVSU Takes Tough Loss in Season Finale

ITTA BENA, Miss. (March 9, 2018) – Senior Dante Scott recorded 21 points in his final game for Mississippi Valley State men's basketball team as the Delta Devils suffered a 91-57 loss to Arkansas-Pine Bluff on Saturday in the Harrison HPER Complex. Scott scored 17 first-half points while seniors Jordan Evans and Gregory Jones-Rollins each finished with 10 points.

The Delta Devils conclude their 2019 season with a 6-24 overall record and 4-14 conference record. MVSU struggled in their final game shooting 33 percent (21-62) from the field and were held to 23 percent (3-13) from beyond the arc. UAPB outscored MVSU 50-21 in the second half in a game where they led the entire way.

Scott scored 17 of his team's 34 first-half points making 6-of-10 field goals including a pair of three-pointers. UAPB scored 20 points in the paint and forced MVSU in seven turnovers. The Golden Lions jumped out to 10-2 early lead within the first three minutes of action. The Delta Devils trimmed the deficit to 23-21 by the 9:17 mark on a three-pointer by Scott. UAPB kept a small lead throughout the remainder of the half and took a 41-36 advantage into halftime.

The second half was difficult for the Delta Devils in their season finale. They were held to 25 percent (8-31) shooting from the field, 12 percent (1-8) from long range and 50 percent (4-8) from the charity stripe. Evans, Ejeh, and Jones-Rollins each had five second-half points as UAPB built a 34-point lead with just under a minute to play.

Martaveous McKnight finished with a game-high 28 points, Terrance Banyard added 14 points and both Marquell Carter and Antonio McDyess scored 10 points.

Five seniors played their final game for MVSU on Saturday in the Harrison Complex; Dante Scott, Jordan Evans, Emmanuel Ejeh, LaCurtis Allen, Tereke Eckwood and Gregory Jones-Rollins.
