JACKSON, Miss. - The Mississippi Valley State Devilettes ran up against an early deficit to the Jackson State Tigers Friday (April 26). Despite a couple late comebacks, they fell short by a 4-3 final in Jackson. Â
The Tigers led wire-to-wire thanks to a three run first inning. Jade Arroyo (Texas City. Tex.) responded with her second home run of the season in the second to make it a 3-1 game. Â
An RBI triple from Jackson State extended their lead back to three. After that, Daisy Page (Anchorage, Ak.) came on in relief and halted the charge with three scoreless innings. Â
Valley's comeback efforts began in the fifth. Jaylon Davis (Murrieta, Calif.) suppled an RBI single to trim the deficit down to 4-2. Needing two in the seventh, Brianna Alston (Rocklin, Calif.) started the rally with a triple. Kennedy Lester (Conyers, Ga.) ripped an RBI single to pull the Devilettes within one. Eventually the tying and go-ahead runs reached base, but a strikeout and fly out ended the threat and the game. Â
With the defeat the Devilettes drop to 9-30 overall and 4-11 in the SWAC. The teams will square off again Saturday (April 27) in Jackson with a noon doubleheader.
