ITTA BENA, Miss. – In their 2019 home opener Sunday (Sept. 1), the Mississippi Valley State Devilette volleyball team was swept by the North Dakota Fighting Hawks 3-0 (18-25, 14-25, 13-25). The loss drops Valley to 0-4 on the season.
Tyler Caliste (New Orleans, La.) led the Devilettes with eight kills on 26 attempts. Ariana Austin (Crowley, Tex.) assisted on 14 of Valley's 19 kills and came within a dig of a double-double. Tylia Dixon (Chino Hills, Calif.) and Jessica Bell (Cedar Hill, Tex.) tallied double digit digs with 11 and 10, respectively.
North Dakota was paced by 12 kills from Darian Chwialkowski and 12 digs from McKenzie Damon. The Fighting Hawks registered a hitting percentage of .247 while holding the Devilettes to a negative percentage.
Valley will look for their first win Tuesday (Sept. 3) at home versus Crowley's Ridge. A 6 p.m. first serve is scheduled.
