Devilettes look for first win in Tuesday showdown, Alabama trip

ITTA BENA, Miss. – After an 0-4 start to the 2019 season, Mississippi Valley State looks for its first win with a home contest against Crowley's Ridge on Tuesday and the Jaguar Invitational in Mobile, Alabama this weekend.

WEEK IN REVIEW: Valley started the season at the StarkVegas Classic, and were swept by Western Illinois, Mississippi State and Chattanooga. The Devilettes also lost 3-0 to North Dakota to wrap up the weekend. Success in the sets varied, with Valley pulling within five points against WIU and dropping a 25-9 decision to Mississippi State.

SCOUTING THE OPPONENTS: Crowley's Ridge has played four contests this season, winning their opener over Stephens College but losing the next three. In their most recent loss, Bailey Loge and Kaitlyn Stebleton registered double digit kills as they were swept. Northwestern State took two of three in Fayettevile, Ark. last weekend, largely with the arm of Hannah Brister, who registered a blistering 5.36 kills per set. Tennessee State shot out of the gate with a win over Auburn backed by 11 kills from Khalia Jordan and 10 kills from Julia Pierson, but were swept in their next two games. South Alabama - like Valley - is winless so far. The Jaguars have earned 10.18 kills per set and are led by Meaghan Jones with 30 kills.

LAST TIME OUT VERSUS THESE SQUADS: Valley has not faced South Alabama or Tennessee State since 2010. Tyler Caliste had 16 kills in Valley's win over Crowley's Ridge last season on September 10th. It's been five years since the Devilettes played Northwestern State, when Valley hit -.207 in route to a rout at the hands of the Lady Demons.
