Box Score PRAIRIE VIEW, Texas – Mississippi Valley State soccer couldn't shake off the shutout blues Friday (Sept. 27) in Prairie View. The Devilettes lost to the Panthers by a 3-0 final in Texas.Â
The contest was progressively lopsided as Valley (1-5-1, 0-1 SWAC) found themselves constantly backed up on defense. Prairie View (2-6, 1-0 SWAC) ended up winning in the shot count, 31-8. With 11 Panther shots on goal, McKenzie McCarthy (Olive Branch, Miss.) was a major factor in keeping it close with eight saves.Â
The first half was very tight as both teams attempted to find a groove. Shay McCool (Chino, Calif.) registered the first shot, but Valley still had issues maintaining an offensive presence. Prairie View cracked the scoreboard with a goal in the 41st minute.Â
Valley did pull off some shots in the second half, with Kristien Lindo (Whitby, Ont., Can.) and Cielo Mazantini (Bakersfield, Calif.) earning a pair of shots each. But two late defensive miscues conceded Panther goals to pull away.Â
The Devilettes wrap up their stay in Texas with a 1 p.m. Sunday (Sept. 29) showdown with Texas Southern.Â
