Volleyball looks to get back to track at Tougaloo

ITTA BENA, Miss. – A 1-7 start with a three match losing streak is not what Mississippi Valley State volleyball had in mind. But Tuesday (Sept. 10) gives the Devilettes the opportunity to get back on track as they travel to Tougaloo for a doubleheader.

Valley will play Lyon College from Arkansas at 5 p.m., followed by a 7 p.m. match with Tougaloo.

SCOUTING THE OPPONENTS: Lyon and Tougaloo both compete in the NAIA. The Scots of Lyon stand at 5-5 on the season, including a win at the Panther Invitational by going 4-0 in a tournament hosted by Philander     Smith. Kendra Kelley leads the Scots with 2.71 kills per set and Destiny Nunez leads with 3.04 digs per set. Tougaloo stands at 3-4 with wins over Rust, Oakwood and Harris-Stowe State. Their most recent game was a 3-0     loss to LeMoyne-Owen this past Saturday (Sept. 7).

LAST TIME OUT FOR THE DEVILETTES: Mississippi Valley was swept in all three matches at the Jaguar Invitational in Mobile, Alabama. Tyler Caliste's 16 kills and 15 digs earned the sophomore All-Tournament honors.

LAST TIME VERSUS THESE TEAMS: Valley and Tougaloo have played nine times, with the Devilettes taking eight. This is the first meeting since 2015, when Valley took two matches - one in five matches and another in a     sweep. This is the first meeting between Valley and Lyon.
