Itta Bena, Miss.- There were five Mississippi Valley State Devilettes with double digit scoring performances in a 73-58 victory in the final non-conference game against the Lady Demons of Northwestern State on Sunday afternoon in Natchitoches, Louisiana.
"Super proud of my kids, said Head Coach Ashley Walker-Johnson, they pulled through and was able to maintain throughout the entire game. It's always tough to get a win, especially on the road. They were able to pull it out together as a team and it gives us good momentum headed into conference play. I'm glad we were able to capture these two wins knowing that a tough conference schedule is ahead of us."
How It Happened
- Zakiya Mahoney notched her third double-double of the season with 16 points and 13 rebounds.
- Senior Diamond Wraggs had her best game of the young season with her first double-double of the year, tallying 11 points and 10 rebounds plus two steals.
- Ronni Williams had herself another all-around performance with a career high in points with 10, to go along with her seven rebounds, seven assists and four steals. Williams also ended the game with zero turnovers in 38 minutes of play.
- Carria Smith showed her dominance in the paint with 13 points on 5-of-9 shooting and eight rebounds.
- Annya Moss finished the game with 12 points and three rebounds.
- The Devilettes out rebounded the Lady Demons 48-to-30.
- MVSU held the lead for over 34 minutes of the game with their largest lead being 16.
- MVSU shot 38.4 percent (28-73) from the field, 21.4 percent (3-14) from the three-point line, and 70 percent (14-20) at the charity stripe.
