Hornets Out Duel Delta Devils

Itta Bena, Ms.- The Delta Devils played their Home Opening Series against the Alabama State Hornets over the weekend.
 
Game 1 (2-4)

The game was tied 0-0 during the bottom of the second inning until Chase Colding stole third and scored on the throw, giving the Devils the 1-0 lead. Both defenses gave their best efforts as the game was 1-0 for 5 straight innings. MVSU continued their impressive play with Joshua Wilson doubling to left field with an RBI from Angel Maldonado giving the Delta Devils breathing room on a 2-0 lead at the bottom of the 7th inning. At the top of the 8th inning the Hornets answered with 4 straight runs. The late blitz from the Hornets gave them the win over the Delta Devils 2-4.
 
Game 2 (3-5)

Following their 11:00 AM game the Devils played a double header starting the second game at 2:00 PM. MVSU struck first again at the bottom of the second inning when Joshua Wilson singled to right field with an RBI from Angel Maldonado. Down 1-0 the Hornets answered at the top of the third inning tying the game at 1-1. The very next inning the Hornets added to their score by earning two more runs on RBI's creating a 1-3 deficit for the Delta Devils. As the game went on, the Hornets Jabronski Williams reached second base on an error with an RBI by Chris Lewis giving them a 1-4 lead at the top of the 6th inning. At the top of the 8th inning Christopher DeGuzman homered to right center. Down 1-5 at the bottom of the 9th inning Willie Johnson tripled to center field with 2 RBI's by Kanaikai Gaughen and Angel Maldonado squeezing the gap to a 3-5 deficit. The final score was 3-5 as the Hornets held off the Devils from an epic comeback.

Game 3 (2-10)

MVSU finished their 3 game home series against Alabama State on Sunday March 8th. The final game started at 1:00 PM and the Hornets homered at the top of the first inning giving them a 0-2 lead and Luis Rodriguez singled to right center with an RBI by Chris Lewis at the top of the second. The devils had a 0-3 hole to climb out of early. At the bottom of the second inning Eric Johnson II scored unearned. The Hornets answered quickly at the top of the third inning, they earned two runs giving them a 1-5 lead. At the top of the fourth inning Jabronski Williams homered with 2 Hornets on base increasing their lead to 7 points. The score was 1-8 until the bottom of the 7th inning when the Delta Devils Aaron Brazelton scored on a passed ball bringing the Delta Devils deficit to 6 points, with the score being 2-8. The final score was 2-10, the Hornets earned two runs at the top of the 9th inning.

The Devils travel to Thibodaux, LA to face off against Nicholls State University on Tuesday March 10th at 6:00 PM.
