Devilettes Participate in the Bulldog Slamboree

Starkville, MS.- The Devilettes were a part of the Bulldog Slamboree along with Bryant University and SE Missouri State.
 
MVSU vs. SE Missouri State

The Devilettes started off slow against the RedHawks falling into a 3-0 hole early in the 1st. Austin's Pauley scores 1st on an overthrow and Rachel Anderson followed that with a home run that brought in 2 scores. At the top of the second Pauley sent a line drive homer to the right field putting the Devilettes into a deeper hole with the score being 4-0. As the game continued the RedHawks earned two more runs and the Devilettes answered back at the bottom of the 5th with a home run by Ayana Taylor, creating a final score of 6-1.
 
MVSU vs. Mississippi State

MVSU Devilettes bounced back with a match against the Mississippi State Bulldogs at 5:30pm making Friday a double header.
The Devilettes played in a defensive battle as the game with the Bulldogs was tied 0-0 until the bottom of the 5th inning. Shortly after, Chloe Malau'ulu singled to left field advancing to second with her teammates Fa Leilua and Candace Denis scoring. After the top of the 6th the Bulldogs scored runs creating a final score of 6-0. The Devilettes finished the game with no hits for the first time this season.
 
MVSU vs. Bryant University

MVSU faced off against the Bryant Bulldogs to open play on Saturday. This matchup was a game full of grit, each team threw their punches, while the other responded.
Tied at 0-0 after the top of the 2nd inning, the Bulldogs Gabrielle Ermish doubled to center with 2 RBI's from Toni Camarillo and Morgan Powell. Down 0-2 at the bottom of the 3rd, the Devilettes responded with an RBI of their own from Miranda Sandoval after Kayla Sanchez singled to left field. The score was 1-2 until the bottom of the 6th inning when the bulldogs scored twice bringing the Devilettes deficit to 3 points, making the score 1-4. In the final inning, MVSU bats were on fire. Laeni Terrones hit a sacrifice bunt and reached second base on an error, which Natalie Bishop scored leaving Terrones on second base and Ayana Taylor on third base with the score 2-4. Cailyn Peterson then singled to left field forcing an RBI with Ayana Taylor scoring making the Devilettes deficit one point, down 3-4. Deshonte Smith hit a shot out to left field and Laeni Terrones scored tying the game at 4-4. The game went on to extra innings where the Bulldogs scored at the bottom of the 9th by an RBI from Dakota Bilodeua on a single to right field from Tiffany Bell. The final score was 4-5.
 
MVSU vs. Mississippi State

After the heartbreaking 4-5 loss to Bryant University, the Devilettes faced off against Mississippi State.

The Bulldogs started off fast, their bats were hot and ready as they finished the first inning with 5 runs to the Devilettes 0. At the bottom of the second inning the Bulldogs earned three more runs creating a score of 0-8. During the bottom of the third inning the Bulldogs scored 9 times forcing the Devilettes deficit to be 17 points. At the top of the fourth inning Deshonte Smith homered with 2 RBI from Miranda Sandoval and Ayana Taylor earning 3 runs. The final score was 3-20 after the Bulldogs scored three runs at the bottom of the fourth inning.

Wrapping up the Bulldog Slamboree, the Devilettes final matchup was against the Bryant Bulldogs. At the top of one, the Bulldogs Carlyn Hernandez singled to center field and Gabrielle Ermish scored on an RBI. After Helaina Michaud hit on base, she went to steal second causing an error by the Devilettes, which led to Aleix Hudson scoring. The score was 0-2 until the top of the third inning when MVSU Brianna Alston scored unearned by an error from short stop. The final score was 1-2 with the Bulldogs protecting their early 1-2 lead.

On March 10th the Devilettes travel to Tyler, TX to battle against Texas College at 3:00 PM.
