ITTA BENA, Miss. – The Mississippi Valley State University softball program will officially announce its new Head Coach this Friday at 11 a.m. at the R.W. Harrison HPER Complex inside the President/Athletic Director's suite.
 
The athletics department conducted a nationwide search for its new head coach when legendary softball coach Lee Smith retired from coaching in August. Smith is still actively enrolled in the department as the Associate Athletic Director and led the Delta Devilettes to eight NCAA Regionals, eight SWAC Championships and won three regional games including twice in 2004.
 
From 2004 to 2009, the Green and White claimed six straight conference championships and won six-of-eight from '04 through 2012. They are the only program to win more than two consecutive crowns and top all Southwestern Athletic Conference programs by winning more than one-third of all championships (8-of-23, 35%) since the SWAC began sponsoring softball in 1997.
