Strong Second Half Rally Comes Up Just Short Against SEMO

 
HATTIESBURG, Miss. – The Mississippi Valley State University women's basketball saw four different Delta Devilettes score in double-digits and outscored the Redhawks by six in the second half but Southeast Missouri State staved them off for a tight 82-76 win.

  • Kerrigan Johnson went for game-high four three-pointers on seven shots (57%), made half of her field goal attempts (6-of-12), produced a season and team-best 19 points plus going a perfect 3-for-3 from the free-throw line off the bench.
 
  • Zakiya Mahoney registered a team/season-high seven boards while just missing out on the scoring lead at 18 as she hit 53% from the court with three steals.
 
  • Mikayla Etienne had season-bests in both field goals (7) and points (15) along with five rebounds.
 
  • Ronni Williams was the fourth and final lady with ten-plus points, hitting the number on the nose with a game-best four steals as well as five rebounds.
 
  • Annya Moss swatted away two blocks for her third career multi-rejection outing while just barely missing out on being the fifth student-athlete with double-digit scoring days at nine points.
 
Notes
 
  • The quartet of Johnson (19), Mahoney (18), Etienne (16) and Williams (10) became the first time that MVSU had four scorers in double-figures since last December.
 
  • Free throw shooting proved to be a difference maker in this contest as MVSU went 10-of-19 (53%) from the line while SEMO was 19-for-27 (70%).
 
  • Valley barely edged out Southeast Missouri State off the bench as the Delta Devilettes put up 19 points and the Redhawks logged 18.
 
Head Coach Ashley Walker-Johnson will have her Delta Devilettes locked and loaded for the Lady Eagle Thanksgiving Classic, beginning Friday versus Southeast Missouri State at 3 p.m. on the campus of Southern Miss.
