Devilettes Participate in The Snowman: Alex Wilcox Memorial Tournament

STARKVILLE, MS. – Mississippi Valley State Devilettes opened their 2021 season in the annual Snowman: Alex Wilcox Memorial Tournament at Mississippi State, playing three games in two days. It was a hard time for the Devilettes as they returned to the diamond. The Devilettes could not prevail in the seasons opening tourney to Missouri State 5-3, Southern Illinois 5-0, and Mississippi State 10-1.

Missouri State 5, Mississippi Valley State 3 
The contest started out good for the Devilettes, as Jaylon Davis brought in the first run in the first inning making the score (1-0). The Bears were also able to score a run in the bottom of the first, ending the first inning (1-1). Coming into the second inning, Keisha White homered it into the center for the Devilettes advancing the team up one point (2-1). The Bears also ran once at the bottom of the second inning, making the score equal (2-2). Davis brought in the last point for the Devilettes in the top of the third inning with a run (3-2). The last points made in the game were scored in the bottom of third by the Bears with three runs and two hits (3-5). The Devilettes ended with a total of three runs, seven hits, and zero errors. 

Southern Illinois 5, Mississippi Valley State 0   
The first inning started off rocky for both competitors, but around the second inning things started to gradually change. The Salukis scored twice both unearned making the score (2-0) at the top of the second. The score remained the same until the Salukis scored with another run in the fourth inning (3-0). The last two points of the game were scored by the Salukis in the top of the fifth (5-0). The Devilettes own Brianna Alston, Sydney Wesley, and Demi Slater each had a single and Cailyn Peterson's two singles totaling five hits for the team. The Devilettes also ended with three errors.

Mississippi State 10, Mississippi Valley State 1
This match off to conclude the Devilettes time in the Snowman tourney against the Bulldogs started off in favor of the Bulldogs. The Bulldogs scored two points in both the bottom of the first and second inning and ended their scoring in the third adding six more points to the scoreboard (10-0). The Devilettes, however, gained one point by Keisha White on a passed ball in the second (10-1). White and Naomi Drake each doubled in the second inning and Jaylon Davis singled to shortstop in the third inning for the Devilettes. Only two errors were made by the Devilettes in the game.  

The Devilettes will journey back to Mississippi State to take on the Bulldogs again on Wednesday, Feb. 24, 2021 at 4:00 p.m.
