Delta Devil Football Suffer Tough Loss at Jackson State

Itta Bena, Miss.- Mississippi Valley State Football team dropped a tough 43-7 decision to Jackson State on Sunday afternoon at Veternans Memorial Stadium.
 
Key Game Stats
  • Jalani Eason was 17-of-34 with 117 yards through the air with one interception along with 17 carries for 60-yards. Eason scored the only touchdown of the game for MVSU with his legs late in the fourth quarter. 
  • Dedarrian Williams was the leading rusher for the Delta Devils with 69 yards on nine carries. Williams longest run was 30 yards which came early in the second half.
  • The leading receiver, Jarius Clayton caught five passes for 35-yards.
  • Keonte' Daniels led the Delta Devils in tackles with eight, including one tackle for loss.
  • Senior Jerry Garner picked up where he left off over 15 months ago with the team's lone sack of the game along with four solo tackles.
  • Orlando Fernandez and his golden leg accounted for 5 punts of 216-yards, including a punt of 53-yards pinning the Tigers deep inside the 20-yard line on two different occasions. He also made a huge 4th down conversion on a fake punt where he gained 8-yards to give the Delta Devils a new set of downs.
 
How it Happened
  • Jacory Rankin opened the game with a 25-yard return to give the Delta Devils good field position on their opening drive. That drive was short lived ending in a missed field goal.
  • The Delta Devils gained 270 yards of total offense while the Tigers finished with a total of 456 yards.
  • MVSU went in the locker room trailing the Tigers by a score of 30-to-0.
  • The lone touchdown for the Delta Devils came late in the second half with a 11-yard run by QB Jalani Eason.
  • The Tigers accounted for 21 first downs to the Delta Devils total of 15.
  • The Delta Devils completed 50 percent of their fourth down opportunities' going 3-for-6.
  • Time of possession was also in favor of the Delta Devils where they held the ball for 34 minutes while Jackson State only having possession for 26 minutes.
  • The Delta Devil defense held the Tigers in check for majority of the second half only allowing one offensive score for the Tigers which came in the fourth quarter.
