MEMPHIS, TN. – On Friday, Mar. 12
th the Mississippi Valley State Devilettes traveled to Tennessee to take on the University of Memphis Lady Tigers on the diamond. The Devilettes competed against the Lady Tigers in two games at 1 p.m. and 3 p.m. MVSU brought it all to the diamond, but the Lady Tigers remained victorious on their home turf.
Game 1
As the first game commenced, the clouds were in the sky and so were the softballs. Briana Alston singled it to left field for the Devilettes in the first inning. The Lady Tigers scored three times in the first inning making the score (3-0). Daisy Page goes to pitch for Mercedes Silva in the second inning for the Devilettes. The Lady Tigers added a few more points to the scoreboard with three singles and a double in the second inning (7-0). The Lady Tigers collected the last few points of the game with two home runs to left and right center in the third inning (9-0). The Devilettes ended the game with one hit and one error.
Game 2
The Devilettes return to take on the Lady Tigers for the second game of the day. Jaylon Davis was able to reach on an error by third base for the Devilettes. Briana Alston was able to single to the pitcher in the first inning, advancing Davis to second base. The Lady Tigers scored two times in one play in the first inning and also three more times making the score (5-0). A'tajua Wren goes to pitch for Ashlyn Matthews in the first inning. Wren also struck out two of the Lady Tigers. Karlee Schierbeek singled in the second inning for the Devilettes. The Lady Tigers came back in the third inning and scored twice advancing to (7-0). The Lady Tigers gained their final five points in the fourth inning. One of those points were unearned and another was from a homerun (12-0). The Devilettes ended the game with two hits and two errors.
The Devilettes open conference play against the Prairie View A&M Lady Panthers on Friday, March 19th at 3:00 p.m.
