Itta Bena, Miss.– The Mississippi Valley State Devilettes held a three-game series this previous weekend against the Prairie View A&M Panthers for their home opening series. The Devilettes played the Panthers twice on Saturday and once on Sunday.
Game 1
L, 6-3
The scoring in the first inning went in favor of the Panthers. The Panthers managed to score four times, three of which were in the same play (4-0). Brianna Alston scored for the Devilettes, as Cailyn Peterson grounded out to 1b unassisted in the first inning (4-1). Kayla Sanchez and Alston both doubled to left field for the Devilettes in the second and third inning. In the fourth inning, Keisha White tripled to left field, Demi Slater doubled, and Sydney Wesley singled to left field. White also scored for the Devilettes raising the score to (4-2). Shelbi Carson tripled to center field for the Devilettes in sixth inning. The Panthers came in the seventh inning scoring two points advancing the score to (6-2). Alston and Kathleen Sims singled in the seventh inning, one of which was a bunt. Jaylon Davis also earned the last score for the Devilettes (6-3). The Devilettes ended with one error.
Game 2
L, 4-2
The Devilettes returned to the diamond shortly after the first game to compete again. Brianna Alston singled in the first inning with a bunt for the Devilettes. Keisha White singled, while Alston scored on the same play for the Devilettes in the third inning, which was unearned (1-0). Jaylon Davis also scored for the Devilettes, unearned (2-0). The Panthers gained their first point in the fourth inning (1-2). Ayana Taylor singled for the Devilettes in the bottom of the fourth. The Panthers scored twice in the fifth inning on the same play raising the score up to (3-2). The Panthers also gained a score in the sixth inning (4-2). Naomi Drake and Taylor both singled in the sixth inning. The Devilettes ended the game with two errors.
Game 3
W, 12-7
The Devilettes ended the last game of the series with a win. The hits of the game didn't kick off until the second inning. The Panthers scored the first two points of the game in the top of the second (2-0). Keisha White scored for the Devilettes in the second inning making the score (2-1). In the third inning, Brianna Alston singled, Naomi Drake singled to right field, and Shelby Carson singled to left field. Brianna Alston scored on a wild pitch for the Devilettes (2-2). Sydney Wesley, Jaylon Davis, and White also scored in the third inning for the Devilettes (5-2).Davis, Kayla Sanchez, and Naomi Drake all doubled to left field for the Devilettes in the fourth, while Cailyn Peterson singled. The Devilettes score raised three points by the help of Davis, Wesley, and Sanchez in the fourth (9-2). The Panthers scored four times in the fifth inning bringing their score to (9-6). Demi Slater singled to the right field and Wesley singled for the Devilettes. Davis doubled along with Alston and Wesley scoring all in the same play for the Devilettes (11-6). The Devilettes ended their scoring with a home run by White in the sixth inning (12-6). The Panthers scored the last point of the game ending with (12-7). The Devilettes ended the game with five errors.
