Devilettes Softball Participate in the Adam Brown Memorial Shamrock Classic

CONWAY, AR. – The Mississippi Valley State Devilettes traveled to Conway, AR for a two-day tournament at the University of Central Arkansas. The Devilettes competed against a total of four teams on Friday and Saturday. This was the team's second tournament of the season and they wanted to make a strong comeback. The Devilettes had some heavy competition in front of them that did result in some losses, but the ladies did manage to leave the tournament with a win against a conference foe. 

Central Arkansas 10, Mississippi Valley State 0
The first game for the Devilettes against the Sugar Bears didn't go very well, which resulted in a win for the opposing team. The Sugar Bears scored in the first, second, and fourth innings; four of which of were unearned (10-0). Daisy Page, Devilettes pitcher, did however strike out three of the Sugar Bears in the first two innings. Mercedes Silva subbed in for Daisy Page in the third inning to pitch and she also strikeout two of the Sugar Bears. The Devilettes ended with a total of three errors.

Western Michigan University 13, Mississippi Valley State 5
The Devilettes returned to the diamond after facing the Sugar Bears to take on the Broncos. Even though the Broncos won the game, the Devilettes didn't show any signs of fear. The game started off slow in the first inning for both teams, but it sped up in the second. Keisha White homered into center field for the Devilettes making the score (1-0). The Broncos also scored four times in the bottom of the second (4-1). The Broncos came back in the third inning and scored seven times, all unearned (11-1). The Devilettes owned the fourth inning as they scored four times; three of which were back to back off a double to right center by Naomi Drake (11-5). The Broncos homered it to center field in the fourth and scored in the fifth, making those the final points earned in the game (12-5). The Devilettes ended the game with five runs, six hits, and two errors.

Mississippi Valley State 7, University of Arkansas at Pine Bluff 2
The Lions started off the scoring against the Devilettes in the second inning, making the score (1-0). Laeni Terrones quickly evened out the score by scoring on a wild pitch for the Devilettes in the third inning (1-1). Kayla Sanchez singled to the right field in the fourth inning for the Devilettes, while also scoring another point for the team. Kayla Sanchez point was unearned (2-1). The Lions also scored a point in the fourth inning (2-2). Jaylon Davis singled to right center and also scored for the Devilettes raising the score to (3-2) in the fifth inning. The Devilettes owned the sixth inning as Brianna Alston and Naomi Drake both had singles and Jaylon Davis doubled. The Devilettes scored four times in the sixth inning making the final score (7-2). The Devilettes ended with seven runs, eight hits, and two errors.

Stephen F. Austin 6, Mississippi Valley State 0
Naomi Drake got the first hit for the Devilettes in the second inning as she doubled to left center. The Ladyjacks scored in the bottom of the second, which was unearned (1-0). The Ladyjacks came back in the third inning and scored three times changing the score to (4-0). A'tajua Wren subbed in to pitch for Ashlyn Matthews for the Devilettes in the third inning. The Ladyjacks scored again in the fourth inning, which was unearned (5-0). Wren managed to strikeout three of the Ladyjacks while pitching. The Ladyjacks scored their final point in the sixth inning, which was unearned (6-0). The Devilettes ended with one hit and three errors.

The Devilettes will travel to the University of Memphis on Friday, Mar. 12th to take on the Lady Tigers.
