Montgomery, AL.- The Mississippi Valley State Delta Devils suffer a 42-17 defeat to the Alabama State Hornets on Saturday afternoon in Montgomery, Alabama.
The Delta Devils opened the game with a 10-play, 66-yard drive that ended with a 26-yard field goal by
Orlando Fernandez to give MVSU a early 3-0 lead. The Hornets then scored a touchdown late in the first quarter to take the lead on the legs of Myles Crawley, with a 3-yard run to give them a 7-3 advantage.
The Delta Devils countered with a touchdown of their own with a 24-yard touchdown run byÂ
Jalani Eason to give MVSU the lead at the end of the first quarter.
The Hornets scored the only points of the second quarter on a 59-yard touchdown pass to give them a 14-10 advantage going into the half.
In the third quarter, Alabama State took a  21-10 lead on another touchdown pass by Ryan Nettles, but the Delta Devils were able to close the lead with touchdown pass from Eason to
Malik Myers to close the deficit to 21-17.Â
The Hornets went on to score three touchdowns in the fourth quarter that put the game out of reach for the Delta Devils.
Key Game Stats
- Jalani Eason was 16-of-28 with one touchdown and one interception for 135 to go along with his 20 carries for 128 yards and one rushing touchdown.
- Eric Powell finished the game with six tackles including one sack and two pass break-ups.
- Caleb Brunson was all over the field with six tackles of his own and a interception.
- Deione Reed and Keonte' Daniels both completed the game with seven tackles, respectively.
- The Delta Devils closed out the game with 315-yards on offense to the Hornets 466-yards.
