Mississippi Valley State Overview:
Â
Coach Davies' ladies are one of the nation's most accurate shooting squads, slotting top-15 in the NCAA with 54.3% of its shot attempts being on-goal.
Â
Bailee Washington has emerged as the team's top scoring threat in her collegiate debut campaign, leading the Green and White in points (7 – 9th in SWAC), points per match (0.70 – 8th in SWAC), goals (3), goals per game (0.30 – 5th in SWAC), shot accuracy (80%), shots-on-goal (4), and shots-on-goal per contest (0.40) while being one of the four student-athletes to notch an assist.
Â
Two other Valley players have found the back of the net;
Rahael Aka-Ety and
Juliette Charriez; who both have an assist as well with
Aryana Saenz contributing the fourth of four team assists.
Â
McKenzie McCarthy sits atop the collegiate soccer world with 11.60 saves on average and is fourth overall in total stops at 116. McCarthy, the program's all-time record holder for both total saves (473) plus stops a match (8.76), ranking second among all active NCAA players in the former and 15th in the latter.
Â
Scouting The Alabama State Lady Hornets:
Â
The Black and Gold are coming off a scoreless draw like Mississippi Valley, as neither Alcorn nor Alabama State could get one past the keeper on Friday evening.
Â
ASU also prides itself on shot accuracy and saves per game, slotting in the top-40 (50.7%) and tenth (6.87) in the NCAA, respectively. They are also a clean bunch, averaging just 6.53 fouls per a match to slot in the top-15.
Â
Sheila Sanchez is one of the premier goalies in the Southwestern Athletic Conference with six shutouts (3rd in SWAC), 94 saves (14th in NCAA), 6.71 saves per contest (12th in NCAA), and a save percentage of 82.2% (leads SWAC) to go along with a miniscule 1.36 goals-against average.
Â
The offense primarily comes off the foot of Kassandra Schoen, whose six goals (6th in SWAC) and 0.40 goals per match average (4th in SWAC) are tops among the Lady Hornets.
