BIRMINGHAM, Ala. – The Mississippi Valley State University women's soccer program will see one of its all-time greats hang them up on Friday afternoon, but she still was able to snag one more award before she goes as goalie
McKenzie McCarthy netted her third Conference Goalkeeper of the Week award of 2022.
McCarthy, a senior from Olive Branch, Mississippi, notched a career first versus AAMU last week, logging a shutout to help the Devilettes obtain a scoreless draw. The all-time program saves leader and current NCAA saves per match queen, racked up 23 saves (11.5 per match) over two complete game efforts last week while surrendering just one goal for a save percentage of 95.8% despite being constantly under fire by 54 shots faced.
Â
The legendary netminder is the only keeper in the Southwestern Athletic Conference to win the award more than twice, and is one of only two that have multiple weekly accolades (Alabama State's Sheila Sanchez).
McCarthy and the Devilettes conclude its season on Friday afternoon at 2 p.m. versus Alcorn for Senior Day where she and four of her graduating teammates will be honored prior to kickoff.
