Harleaux Has Double-Double, Mahoney Named To All-Tournament Team


HATTIESBURG, Miss. – The Mississippi Valley State University women's basketball program got a double-double from one of its ladies for the second straight showdown and saw one of its student-athletes make the Lady Eagle Thanksgiving Classic All-Tournament Team as Nicholls enacted revenge for earlier this week, 84-74.

  • Zaria Harleaux was easily the best player on the court Saturday, going off with a season-high 17 points and a game/season-best 17 rebounds on top of her first two blocks as a Devilette and shooting 46.2% as well as a perfect 5-for-5 from the charity stripe.
 
  • Krisen Hunt went for numerous career-bests of 16 points, six field goals made, and three assists.
 
  • Elisa Saffold broke through the double-figure scoring barrier for the first time at MVSU by nailing a game-most four long range bombs for 12 points in just 17 minutes.
 
  • Mahoney fronted Valley State with four assists, poured in ten points, grabbed five boards, and made multiple threes while earning herself All-Tournament honors.
 
  • Kerrigan Johnson tied a career-most four rebounds to go along with eight points and three assists, Milia Gibson handed out a career-best three helpers, and Kyriana Jones produced eight points plus her first multi-steal night of her collegiate debut season.
 
Notes:
 
  • Valley matched its season output of three-pointers made through the first five games in the second tilt with Nicholls alone, burying 13 long balls on 33 attempts for a 39.4% conversion rate.
 
  • MVSU won the turnover battle for the third time in five games (11-13), both games versus the Colonels and at Lipscomb.
 
  • The 74-point showing was its best offensive performance by ten, securing its most threes (13), its highest field-goal percentage (34.7%), and its highest stat totals for offensive rebounds (18), assists (16), plus blocks (2).
 
The Devilettes will have a once-in-a-lifetime opportunity on Thursday evening as its hosts nationally ranked Utah on ESPN+ at 6 p.m. as part of the Pac-12 / SWAC Legacy Series.
