Mahoney Drops 20 On 16th-Ranked Utah In Defeat


ITTA BENA, Miss. – The Mississippi Valley State University women's basketball program faced off against its second ranked opponent of the season, the other being at #14 LSU, fighting through adversity in a 109-42 setback.

  • Zakiya Mahoney played a season-high 36 minutes and made six free throws on her way to seventh career 20-plus point game, her second in the past week.
 
  • Krisen Hunt has now tied her career-high of three assists on three separate occasions this year, leading the Green and White on the night while putting seven points on the board as well.
 
  • Despite fouling out towards the end of the third quarter, Zaria Harleaux notched a team-best six rebounds on the evening and turned in her second multi-assist affair of 2022-23.
 
  • Ameerah Ali finally cracked the stat sheet in her third appearance of the season, making a free throw and landing an impressive blocked shot, her first as a collegiate ballplayer.
 
  •  Elisa Saffold connected on the squad's only two successful three-point attempts versus Utah, finishing second on the club with eight points on 3-of-5 shooting.
Notes:
 
  • The guard-driven Devilettes surprisingly out-blocked the vertically gifted Utes, notching its second straight multi-block outing while shutting out Utah in that category.
 
Valley has nearly two weeks before its next matchup, a Wednesday morning matinee at 11 a.m. on December 14 at the University of New Orleans.
