Washington Scores Twice, Charriez Once As Cougars Hold Off Devilettes In High-Scoring Affair


ITTA BENA, Miss. – The Mississippi Valley State women's soccer program scored its first three goals of the season and nearly erased a two-goal halftime deficit but just ran out of time in a 4-3 decision.

  • Bailee Washington registered two shots on the morning, and both found the back of the net, giving the freshman her first pair of goals at the collegiate level and has now scored on exactly half of her shot attempts (2-for-4).
 
  • Juliette Charriez can now add a shot-on-goal, a score and an assist to her Valley resume, blasting a 20-foot free kick past the outstretched glove of the keeper for a top-shelf goal that barely slipped inside the bar in the right corner. The sophomore from San Juan, Puerto Rico also played a vital role in Washington's first score, providing a beautiful touch to her teammate in the 3rd minute to cash in three points in the match.
 
  • Rahael Aka-Ety was credited with her second career assist on Washington's second goal at the 53-minute mark, tallying a shot attempt to boot.
 
  • Zulema Salome got off her first shot-on-goal as a Devilette, joining her former University of Puerto Rico teammate, Charriez, with getting into the stat column.
   
Notes
 
  • Valley State tripled its previous season-high for shots-on-goal, rocketing six on-target attempts on eight shots, a 75% accuracy rate.

With its non-conference schedule in the rearview mirror, Coach Davies and his ladies start SWAC action with the Southern Lady Jaguars on Friday, September 30 at 4 p.m. inside the Mississippi Valley Soccer Complex.
