ITTA BENA, MS- Mississippi Valley State University's women's basketball defeats McNeese State in 85-82 victory in opening day of MTE weekend.
McNeese (1-2) allowed the Devilettes to score 50 points in the paint, 32 bench points and 22 second chance points.
MVSU (1-2) held a slim 22-21 lead after the first quarter, but McNeese led 44-39 at the half after outscoring MVSU 23-17 in the second quarter.
After the half, MVSU tied the game at 59 apiece with 3:30 left in the quarter. McNeese went on a 14-2 run the rest of the way to lead 73-61 after the third quarter.
MVSU outscored McNeese 24-9 in the fourth quarter.
MVSU was led with a double-double from
Amberly Brown who scored 23 points and 11 rebounds.
Sh'Diamond McKnight also had a double-double with 18 points and 10 assists.
SyAnn Holmes added 10 points and four rebounds.
After 16 lead changes, the Devilettes ended the game shooting 48.5 percent from the field.
Day 2 of the MTE on Friday November 17, MVSU will face University of Louisiana-Monroe at 4 p.m.
On Saturday November 18, MVSU will face Wisconsin-Milwaukee at 1 p.m.
