COLLEGE STATION, TX - In a challenging matchup on Monday night, Mississippi Valley State University women's basketball team ultimately falls 95-45 to Texas A&M University.
The first quarter saw Mississippi Valley State trailing behind the Aggies, with a score of 23-10. However, the Devilettes showed their determination in the second quarter, starting with an impressive 8-0 run to narrow the deficit to five points.
Unfortunately, Texas A&M responded with a strong push, outscoring MVSU 20-4 in the remaining 7:54 of the period. As they headed into halftime, the Devilettes found themselves trailing 43-22.
The third quarter presented an uphill battle for MVSU as the Aggies extended their lead to 32 points at the 1:41 mark. Despite the challenging circumstances, the Devilettes managed to make a basket at the buzzer, bringing the margin to 59-31 heading into the final break.
Sh'Diamond McKnight emerged as a standout player for Mississippi Valley State, leading the team with 16 points. In an impressive all-around performance, McKnight also contributed six assists, five rebounds, and four steals. Her consistent double-digit scoring has been a key factor in the Devilettes' season, with eight double-digit performances in the eleven games played.
Other notable contributions came from
Sadie Williams, who added eight points, and
Lizzie Walker and
SyAnn Holmes, both chipping in seven points each.
