In a challenging matchup on Saturday night, the Mississippi Valley State University men's basketball team faced a tough opponent in the University of San Francisco, ultimately falling short with a final score of 92-42 in the last non-conference matchup.
Despite a valiant effort early in the game, the Delta Devils struggled to maintain momentum as USF pulled away.
The first few minutes of the game showed promise for MVSU, keeping the score relatively close with the largest lead by USF being just five points. However, as the game progressed, the University of San Francisco built a substantial lead. By halftime, MVSU found themselves trailing 51-21.
Despite the challenging circumstances, Mississippi Valley State had standout performances from two key players who managed to score in double figures. Arecko Gipson led the team with 13 points and contributed four rebounds, and Donovan Sanders added ten points and three rebounds.
Looking ahead, the Delta Devils are gearing up for their first home game of the season against Alabama State University on Saturday, January 6, 2023. This matchup marks the beginning of Southwestern Athletic Conference (SWAC) play for MVSU. The game is scheduled for 6:00 PM.
