Diamond Devils Clinches Lead in Seventh Inning for Victory Over Alcorn

ITTA BENA, Miss. - The Mississippi Valley State Diamond Devils stole the lead late to clinch victory over Alcorn, 17-13, on Tuesday evening at Magnolia Field.

The game was tied at ten with MVSU batting in the bottom of the seventh when Davione Hull was hit by a pitch, driving in a run. Chris Soeder went 4-for-4 at the plate. Soeder singled in the first, homered in the second, singled in the sixth, and singled in the seventh. Sodeder also got things going for the MVSU in the first inning with a single RBI.

Calvin McClendon took the win for MVSU. The southpaw allowed two hits and three runs over one and one-third innings, striking out one. Dylan Whitfield, James Snipes, and Jose Salazar-Ortega all put in the work with relief out of the bullpen, steering the Diamond Devils team toward the victory. Snipes recorded the last three outs to earn the save for MVSU.

Azalius Lewis started the game for Mississippi Valley State Delta Devils. The lefty surrendered five runs on eight hits over four and third innings, striking out five and walking one.

"The guys came out and played really hard tonight," said Head Coach Barney Milton. "The biggest difference was execution. We performed in key plays and got some key hits in the big spots. Great way to end the home stand as we hit the road for a four-game road trip."

The Diamond Devils smacked three home runs on the evening. Dreylin Holmes had a long ball in the first inning. Ty Washington had a four-bagger in the seventh inning, and Soeder put one out in the second inning.

Soeder and Victor Figueroa each racked up multiple hits, and as a team, MVSU collected 12 hits. Soeder went 4-for-4 at the plate to lead MVSU in hits. The Diamond Devils stole six bases during the game as Davon Mims led the team with two stolen bases.
