Diamond Devils Falls Short to Wildcats

DAYTONA BEACH, Fla. - The Mississippi Valley State Diamond Devils lost the lead late in a 6-4 defeat to Bethune Cookman on Saturday evening inside the Jackie Robinson Ballpark. 

The Diamond Devils lost despite out-hitting the Wildcats 12 to six. B-CU trailed 4-2 in the bottom of the seventh inning when Luis Tuero tripled on the first pitch of the at-bat, scoring three runs.

MVSU collected 12 hits on the day. Dreylin Holmes went yard in the fourth inning, smacking one home run. Ryan Brown, Victor Figueroa, Christopher King, and Maury Weaver each racked up multiple hits. Brown went 3-for-4 at the plate to lead MVSU in hits. 

The Diamond Devils didn't commit a single error in the field. 

Hunter Stallings started the game for MVSU. The right-hander went six and two-thirds innings, allowing four runs on four hits and striking out four.

Jose Salazar-Ortega took the loss for MVSU. The pitcher went one and one-third innings, allowing two runs on two hits.

The Diamond Devils and Wildcats series will conclude on Sunday afternoon inside the Jackie Robinson Ballpark. The first pitch set for 12:00 p.m. CST.
