ITTA BENA, Miss. - A walk-off double sealed the game for the Mississippi Valley State Diamond Devils' victory over Jackson State, 14-13, on Friday evening at Magnolia Field.

The Diamond Devils were down 13-12 in the bottom of the ninth inning when Davione Hull doubled on the first pitch of the at-bat, scoring two runs.

"The boys never gave up," said Head Coach Milton Barney. "We have been playing solid baseball over the last couple of weeks, and today we finally put it all together. Jitters set the tone, and the three-man rotation of Salazar, Valenzuela, and Sigmon got the job done. Just have to keep grinding."

Zachery Sigmon got the win for MVSU. The righty lasted five innings, allowing seven hits and six runs while striking out four. Isaiah Valenzuela threw one and two-thirds innings in relief out of the bullpen. Jose Salazar-Ortega started the game for MVSU. The righthander went two and third innings, allowing five runs on three hits and striking out one.

Mississippi Valley State Delta Devils smacked three home runs on the day. Hull put one out in the fourth inning. Maury Weaver had a long ball in the second inning. Figueroa had a homer in the first inning, scoring two runs.

MVSU built a five-run lead in the second inning and held off the Tigers. JSU tallied 13 runs in the failed comeback. Jordon Smiley, Cesar Saavedra, Daniel Bannon, Jatavis Melto, Marcus Atterbery, and Ty Hill picked up RBIs to lead the rally. JSU evened things up at ten in the top of the eighth inning. Hill drove in two when Hill singled.

The Diamond Devils racked up 16 hits on the day. Hull, Weaver, Figueroa, and Michael Buckley each racked up multiple hits for Mississippi Valley State Delta Devils. Weaver and Hull each managed four hits to lead Mississippi Valley State Delta Devils.
