ITTA BENA, Miss. - To compete as a Mississippi Valley State University Delta Devil and Devilette, the competition starts with winning in the classroom. The MVSU student-athletes elevated academically, as evidenced by the MVSU 2022-23 GPA.
By Spring 2023, MVSU was removed from the NCAA Infractions Report, proving the ability to elevate at MVSU.
"Our student-athletes worked tremendously hard this year, and I would like to congratulate everyone for the hard work and dedication in the classroom and to Mississippi Valley State Athletics," said MVSU Director of Athletics Hakim McClellan. "Continue to elevate."
The athletic year concludes with a cumulative GPA of 3.17. MVSU tallied 19 student-athletes finishing academically with a 2.75-2.99; 53 student-athletes with a 3.00-3.49; and 79 student-athletes with a 3.5-4.0 GPA.
Academic improvements were evident between Fall 2022 and Spring 2023 sports GPAs. In Fall 2022, Softball (3.584); Women's Soccer (3.395); and Women's Track & Field (3.220) had the highest GPAs. In Spring 2023, Softball (3.334); Women's Soccer (3.443), Football (3.094), Women's Tennis (3.086), and Women's Track & Field (3.022) had the highest GPA.
Cumulatively, Softball (3.581) had the highest GPA for MVSU Athletics for the year. Women's Soccer followed with a 3.391 cumulative GPA. Women's Track & Field (3.142), Women's Tennis (3.076), Football (3.068), and Cheer (3.0).
