ITTA BENA, MISS. - The Mississippi Valley State Devilettes defeated Tougaloo College with a 3-0 sweep on Wednesday evening to remain undefeated at home.
Mississippi Valley State defeated Tougaloo 26-24 in a close first set before defeating Tougaloo 25-18 and 25-9 in sets two and three of the night.
MVSU was led by Mikala Lee with 15 assists and six kills, Malia Black contributed seven aces and three blocks, and Ashlynn Hawkins added six kills.
Mikala Lee recorded 15 assists and Torre Giron tallied seven diggs.
" I'm most proud of my players because they have will and they play hard whistle to whistle, " said Head Coach Assata Conway. "They find ways to come together and win. It's a special situation. They make coaching easy."
The Devilettes travel to Alabama (Sept.15-16) for the University of North Alabama Classic; there, it'll meet Arkansas Pine-Bluff, Central Arkansas, and North Alabama.
Southwestern Athletic Conference play begins with a three-game road trip with stops at Jackson State (Sept. 22), Florida A&M (Sept. 30), and Bethune-Cookman (Oct. 1).
