Mississippi Valley State Devilettes Takes Loss to Alabama A&M

ITTA BENA, Miss. -  Mississippi Valley State University's women's basketball took a 83-67 loss in conference play to Alabama A&M University at the R.W. Harrison HPER Complex on Monday night.

MVSU opened the game strong in the first quarter leading AAMU 21-17 and shooting 46.7 percent from the floor. Going into halftime, MVSU and AAMU were tied up at 37. MVSU was led by Sh'Diamond McKnight who had 19 first half points.
 
Alabama A&M (6-8 overall, 1-1 SWAC) used a 26-point third quarter to pull away and secure the road victory.
 
Sh'Diamond McKnight who had 19 first half points and finished the game with 23 points, five assists, and six steals. Aaliyah Duranham scored a season high 17 points and grabbed 4 rebounds.
 
How It Happened
  • The lead saw six lead changes and five ties with Mississippi Valley State held as much as a five-point lead with 6:08 in the second quarter. Alabama A&M held as much as a 20 point lead (5:57 in the fourth quarter). 
  • Mississippi Valley State finished the night shooting 44.4 (24-of-54) percent from the floor and 35.7 (5-of-14) percent from beyond the arc. They also shot 66.7 (14-of-21) percent from the free throw line.
  • The Bulldogs won the rebounding battle 44-29.
  • MVSU led with AAMU in fast break points 20-10.
  • AAMU shot 45 percent (27-of-60) from the floor and 68.8 percent (22-of-32) from the free throw line. 
  • Sh'Diamond McKnight finished with a game-high 23 points, six steals, five assists and two rebounds
  • Aaliyah Duranham posted a career high 17 points, four rebounds and one assist
  • Victoria Dixon recorded a team-high 21 points
  • Alisha Wilson pulled down a career-high 24 rebounds, 14 points, three assists, two steals and two blocks
