Brown and Walker Lead MVSU in Road Win over Alabama State

MONTGOMERY, AL - Mississippi Valley State University's women's basketball win 67-59 over Alabama State University at the Dunn-Oliver Acadome on Monday night.

From the opening tip-off, the Devilettes came out with intensity, establishing an early lead over ASU and setting the tone for the game. Led by the dynamic play of Lizzie Walker, who erupted for 14 first-half points, MVSU surged ahead to claim a commanding 22-16 advantage at the end of the first quarter. Walker's stellar performance continued into the second quarter, as she ignited the offense and propelled her team to a 40-30 halftime lead.

However, Alabama State University refused to back down, mounting a comeback effort fueled by the relentless determination of Cordasia Harris. ASU narrowed the gap to just three points with 1:57 remaining in the third quarter, yet, MVSU remained composed under pressure, refusing to relinquish their hard-earned lead.

As the pivotal moments of the fourth quarter unfolded, it was Amberly Brown who emerged as the beacon of leadership for the Devilettes.

MVSU was able to seize control in the fourth quarter and steal a 67-59 conference win on the road.

MVSU was led by Amberly Brown who scored 18 points and grabbed nine rebounds, collected two steals and two blocks. Lizzie Walker finished with 14 points, eight rebounds, three steals, and two blocks. Sh'Diamond McKnight added nine points and six assists, and Jaylia Reed scored eight points.

The Devilettes will travel back home to host Texas Southern University on Saturday February 24, 2024 for "Greek Night". The game is scheduled for 4:00PM.
