MVSU's Late Surge Falls Short in a 74-65 Battle Against Prairie View A&M

Mississippi Valley State University (MVSU) fought valiantly but fell to Prairie View A&M University in a tightly contested SWAC basketball game held at the Harrison HPER Complex. Despite a strong second-half comeback, MVSU was unable to overcome Prairie View's early lead, resulting in a 74-65 final score.

The Delta Devils started strong with a 6-0 lead early in the game, thanks to sharp shooting from George Ivory III and support from Alvin Stredic in the paint. However, Prairie View responded with a commanding 17-0 run in the first half, giving them a significant edge heading into halftime with a 39-26 lead.

In the second half, MVSU displayed resilience, narrowing the deficit with an impressive 39-point performance. Stredic led the charge, scoring 17 points and grabbing six rebounds, while Jair Horton provided a spark off the bench, adding 13 points. Donovan Sanders contributed 10 points, showcasing his ability to attack the basket and defend.

Despite outscoring Prairie View in the second half, MVSU struggled with turnovers, committing 19 compared to Prairie View's 15. Prairie View capitalized on those errors, securing 23 points off turnovers and demonstrating efficiency at the free-throw line with a 76.5% success rate.

The Delta Devils also showed their strength in the paint, scoring 32 points compared to Prairie View's 30. However, Prairie View's balanced attack and timely three-point shooting (7-20) proved to be the difference in the game.

The crowd of 1,178 witnessed a spirited effort by MVSU, which displayed promise and determination throughout the match. The team looks forward to refining its play and building on the positives from this game as it continues its SWAC journey.
