Defense Notches First Multi-Interception SWAC Game In Two Years At Port City Classic

 
MOBILE, Ala. – The Mississippi Valley State University football program picked off not one, but two (RV) Alabama State pass attempts, the first time the Delta Devils defense had done that against a SWAC opponent since November 16, 2023, but the Hornets still came away with the win in the Port City Classic, 41-3.

  • Marko Dubak pinned the Black and Gold inside their own redzone on four of his six punts, averaging 39.3 yards per kick (236 total) including a pair of 50-yarders with a long of 53.
 
  • Donavin Green recorded his first career interception and tackle for loss while leading the troops in tackles at four, two of those being of the solo variety.
 
  • DePhabian Fant led the team in all-purpose yards, garnering 34 yards on his lone kickoff return, a team-high 27 yards on the ground, and 19 yards as a route runner for a grand total of 80.
 
  • Isaiah Pedack met the ballcarrier in the backfield for his fifth TFL of 2025 to go along with his first quarterback hurry as well.
 
  • Kobe Byrd tallied the third and final tackle for loss on the evening whereas Joey Davis read the signal callers eyes and jumped in front of the wideout for the Freshman's first collegiate interception.
 
  • Shade Schaefer showed a knack for some explosiveness as a return man, bringing three kickoffs back a combined 51 yards on top of a nine-yard punt return.
