Josh Brown Torches Wildcats Defense, Bethune-Cookman Prevails In Shootout

 
ITTA BENA, Miss. – The Mississippi Valley State University football program watched as their signal caller unleashed an aerial assault, shredding the BCU defense through the air while scoring twice on the ground, however, the homestanding Bethune-Cookman Wildcats came away with the victory on the scoreboard, 42-34.

  • John Brown produced the game of his life, shattering his previous season-highs in nearly every category with 418 passing yards (previous-best was 254), 36 completions (previous-best was 20), three total touchdowns (previous-best was two), including his first two rushing scores of the year, plus a completion percentage of 63.2% (36-of-57).
 
  • Cameron Nelson was his go-to target, being on the receiving end of exactly one-third of his completions and nearly doubling his season total (13) coming into the day, catching a personal-record dozen passes for a career-most 124 yards (10.3 YPC) and finding paydirt for the third contest in-a-row.
 
  • Dakarai Cabell logged a 2025-high for tackles, topping the squad at nine with five solo takedowns.
 
  • Marko Jovisic drilled two more field goals in two attempts to up his season percentage to 92.3% (12-of-13), hitting from 48 and 31 yards while making each of his four PATs as well as launching his fourth touchback on kickoffs in 2025.
 
  • The wide receiving corps all shined brightly with season-highs up-and-down the board:
 
  • Cameron White nearly eclipsed the century mark at 98 via four catches (24.5 YPC), both personal benchmarks.
 
  • Evens Valcourt Jr. went for new standards regarding catches (7) and receiving yards (82) for a 11.7 yards per catch average.
 
  • Norman Taylor recorded a season-best 44 yards and a long of 22 on seven receptions after entering the matchup with five in seven tilts.
 
  • Jalen Wright registered at least a half-TFL for the third consecutive contest as part of a seven tackle afternoon.
 
  • Jusden Culpepper took down Cam'Ron Ransom for his first career sack at the collegiate level while Joey Davis tallied his first ever pass breakup in the defensive backfield.
 
  • Lastly, DePhabian Fant scored his second rushing touchdown of 2025, the third straight season with multiple scores on the ground, tying his career-high in the process.
