Football Stuns Florida A&M Again, Ends Season With A Bang

Box Score

ITTA BENA, Miss. – The Mississippi Valley State University football program snapped out of a nearly-month long offensive scoring drought, passing for four touchdowns and earning one on the ground while an opportunistic defense snatched three interceptions as the Delta Devils knocked off the Florida A&M Rattlers for their first SWAC win of the year for the second straight season, 35-31.

The offense was humming all game long, particularly through the air, as their four passing scores were the most all year whereas their passing yards (385) and completions (29) ranked second behind the contest at Bethune-Cookman.

On the other side of the ball, all three levels played fast and furious, racking up its most TFLs (9), sacks (4), and interceptions (3) against a FCS opponent in 2025.

Head Coach Terrell Buckley enters the offseason on a winning streak and with a notch on his belt, securing his first career victory in the Southwestern Athletic Conference.

Delta Devils' Top Performers:

  • It was a day neither quarterback Brandon Nunez nor wide receiver Mekhi Norris will ever forget as the duo connected time and time again to keep moving the chains, cutting through the Rattlers defense with ease.
    • Nunez, playing in his final collegiate game, saved his best performance for last, slinging three touchdowns with his arm, ran another one in with his legs, converted 28-of-47 (59.6%) passes, and exploded for 331 passing yards (plus 19 rushing), all season-highs.
    • Eight of those completions went to Norris, who logged career-best totals for catches (8) and receiving yards (140) in addition to scoring his first receiving touchdown.
      • And if all that was not enough, they executed a perfect double pass trick play as Nunez passed behind the line of scrimmage to Norris who then logged the pigskin 27 yards to a wide open Cameron Nelson for another six points.

  • The rest of the receiving corps earned their flowers as well with Nelson six receptions for 55 yards plus his fourth score of the season and Christian White averaged just over 25 yards per catch (25.3) to total 76 yards on a trio of snags, finding pay dirt for the second time.

  • Jamari Stokes was the king of the secondary, becoming the first Delta Devils defender with a multi-interception game since Jamison Lindsey picked off Alabama A&M twice on November 3, 2022.

  • Down in the trenches, James Bradley did a little bit of everything for Defensive Coordinator Kelvin Smith, making four total tackles (3 TFLs), his second career sack, two pass breakups, and another two quarterback hurries.

  • Also along the line was Isaiah Pedack who clocked not one, but two sacks on RJ Johnson III while the fourth sack came courtesy of linebacker Jalen Wright whose eight tackles led all players on each side.

  • Dante Kelly capped off the campaign with his second INT whereas DePhabian Fant logged 2025-bests in both rushing (31) and receiving yards (35), the latter adding his second career score as a wideout to the ledger in his last game.

  • Marko Dubak used a blustery wind to his advantage ball day, dropping five balls into the Rattlers red zone then watching the winds subtly nudge the pigskin towards the goal line as two punts would end up going 50+ with a long of 56.

  • The likely All-SWAC placekicker, Marko Jovisic, did not attempt a field goal but made all five of his PATs, finishing a perfect 18-of-18 on the season in addition to blasting a touchback on kickoff duty.

Next:

  • Mississippi Valley's season has ended with an overall record of 2-10 and 1-7 in the SWAC.
