BIRMINGHAM, Ala. – The Mississippi Valley State University men's basketball program did not stray far from home, heading down the road to the University of Alabama at Birmingham, suffering a 106-55 setback to the Blazers in the 2025-26 season opener.

Devilettes' Top Performers: 

  • Meridian Community College transfer Michael James made a lasting first impression, going off for 25 of the Devils' 55 points (45.5%) thanks to a perfect 10-for-10 showing at the charity stripe while also fronting the defensive side of the ball with four steals, tied for the game's most.

  • Lamont Sams was second on the scoring totem pole at nine, topping all Green and White clad rebounders with five and was one of four players to log a block.

  • Patrick Punch was the third and final student-athlete with more than a half-dozen points, putting together eight to go along with an assist plus a block.
