Gutsy Effort Falls Short In SWAC Second Round vs. #7 UAPB

COLLEGE PARK, Ga. – The #9 seed Mississippi Valley State University women's basketball program fell behind early but nearly battled all the way back, showing a desire and passion to keep fighting as they laid their hearts out on the line despite what the final scoreboard read, 81-74 in favor of the #7 seed Arkansas-Pine Bluff Golden Lions.

Devilettes' Top Performers:

  • Janiya Jones saved her best career performance for her final one in Green and White, ending up with a personal record of 22 points and eight field goals (8-for-16, 50%) plus six boards.

  • Nairobi Lewis went down with authority, blocking her most shots as a Valley student-athlete via five rejections on top of eight boards and a pair of steals.

  • Jaeda Murphy has gained a much deserved reputation as a floor general, but even she outdid herself on Tuesday, dishing out a career-best nine assists alongside 11 points for a near double-double while swiping a contest-most three takeaways.

  • Desiree Smith just missed doubling up in the stat sheet as well, hauling in an MVSU-high dozen rebounds in addition to nine points.

  • Sydnei Marshall and Kylah McCullers each cashed in five buckets each, the former adding four free throws and a triple to log 15 points whereas the latter had one trey and one freebie to finish at an even 12.
