LORMAN, Miss. – The Mississippi Valley State University men's basketball program was merely inches away from nailing a dramatic shot at the horn once again and sending the game into overtime, unfortunately, it was not meant to be on this night as the off-balance heave rolled around the cylinder and out as the Braves defeated the Delta Devils, 67-64.

• Daniel Mayfield stepped forward to be the leader of the offense Tuesday evening, leading Mississippi Valley in points (18) and rebounds (10) while registering the only two blocks as he cashed in his sixth double-double of the campaign.

 

• Michael James was held to his second-lowest scoring night of SWACtion at 14 points, but the improvisational guard made up for it with a season-high seven assists, one shy of Alcorn's team total.

 

• Mussa Mzein joined his buddies in the double figure club, dropping 11 in just 17 minutes out of a reserves role, going 4-for-6 (66.7%) and 3-of-3 from the stripe.

 

• Xzayvion Childress added four assists and five points to the stat sheet whereas Patrick Punch logged seven points as well as a trio of boards.
