Box Score
LORMAN, Miss. – The Mississippi Valley State University baseball program earned its doubleheader sweep in polar opposite fashions as game one was a ten-inning nailbiter where small ball (six steals) reigned supreme in a 6-5 win while game two was a power show that saw three home runs, including a grand slam, account for nine runs during a 15-8 triumph.

Diamond Devils' Top Performers (Game 1):

  • Three separate ballplayers got on-base four times in the opener as Cody Leming, Kendall Brookins, and Johnny Escoblaez Jr. all singled twice along with walking twice with the trio scoring five runs, stealing four bases, and knocking in one RBI.
    • Escobalez was the main culprit on the base paths, swiping three bags and crossing the plate thrice on his own whereas Brookins also registered a double.

  • Logan Darnell was close to perfection while earning the win on the hill, going six-up and six-down in the final two innings as he whiffed half of the Braves that opposed him.

  • Luke Richard did not have his best stuff, but he powered all the way through seven strong frames in which he gave up just three earned runs with a trio of strikeouts and just a single base on balls allowed, all in just 78 pitches.

Diamond Devils' Top Performers (Game 2):

  • Isreal Ramos will remember Wednesday for the rest of his life as he made the Braves' pitching staff look like April Fools by unloading a pair of mammoth home runs, a two-run blast to give the Devils the lead in the second and a three-run dinger in his following at-bat en route to a 3-for-5, six-RBI, four-run masterpiece of an offensive clinic.

  • Ty Burns recorded just one hit, but it was a beauty, launching a grand slam over the purple padded fence and into the Mississippi sky for his first long ball at MVSU.

  • Chris Soeder reached base four times and came all the way around to score each time, adding a pair of singles plus a walk to the ledger while being hit by a pitch and driving in a ribbie.

  • Eric Williams coaxed three walks and Cody Leming made two trips down to first base on ball fours as part of an approach that saw Valley end the second contest with 13 free passes.

Next:

  • The Diamond Devils can get to ,500 in SWAC competition for the first time since the 2022 season (started 2-1) if they can take care of business against Alcorn one more time at noon on Thursday.
