MONTGOMERY, Ala. — Mississippi Valley State football opens Southwestern Athletic Conference play Saturday, Sept. 26, as the Delta Devils travel to Montgomery to face Alabama State at ASU Stadium.

Kickoff is scheduled for 5 p.m. CT, with the conference matchup streaming live on SWAC TV. The contest marks MVSU's third road game of the season and its first conference test of the 2026 campaign.

Delta Devils Look to Start Conference Play Strong
Mississippi Valley State enters Saturday's matchup with a 1-3 overall record following its first four nonconference games. The Delta Devils earned their first victory of the season Sept. 12 with a 31-20 win over Lincoln (Pa.) at Soldier Field in the Chicago Football Classic before falling 21-6 to Delta State in their home opener. The opening four games have given MVSU several offensive playmakers opportunities to emerge heading into conference action.

Quarterback Josh Brown has completed 47 of 83 passes for 411 yards and three touchdowns while also providing a threat on the ground. Brown leads the Delta Devils with 147 rushing yards on 28 carries, averaging 5.3 yards per attempt.

The MVSU rushing attack has also received production from Dezmond Ray and Norman Taylor. Ray has rushed for 107 yards on 25 carries, while Taylor has totaled 98 yards and the team's lone rushing touchdown through four games.

Bluitt Providing Big-Play Ability
Dayvian Bluitt has emerged as one of the Delta Devils' primary explosive-play threats through the air. Bluitt leads MVSU with 195 receiving yards on nine catches, averaging 21.7 yards per reception, with one touchdown and a season-long reception of 79 yards.

Jaylen King leads the team with 14 receptions for 107 yards and a touchdown, while Nicholas Buggs has added six catches for 92 yards and one score.

Through four games, Mississippi Valley State is averaging 240.5 yards of total offense per contest, including 118.8 rushing yards and 121.8 passing yards.

Defense Creating Turnovers
The Delta Devil defense has collected three interceptions through the opening four games, with Joey Davis, Jamari Stokes and Tyrell Johnson each recording one.

Johnson produced the biggest defensive return of the season with a 95-yard interception return for a touchdown.

MVSU will look to continue generating takeaways against an Alabama State team entering Saturday's matchup at 2-1.

Scouting Alabama State
Alabama State opened the season with consecutive victories, defeating Southern 30-17 in Birmingham before posting a 34-0 home victory over Lane College. The Hornets most recently fell 34-17 at Troy on Sept. 12 and enter Saturday following an open week. 

Saturday will serve as the SWAC opener for both programs as the Delta Devils begin the conference portion of their schedule on the road.
