Doug Shanks is entering his 15th season as the head coach of the Mississippi Valley State University baseball team. During his tenure, Shanks, who took over for longtime head coach Cleotha Wilson in 2000, has led the Delta Devils to 253 victories and five SWAC Eastern Division titles. A total of 24 of his former student-athletes have been named All-SWAC while one was tabbed All-American and a pair of All-Region performers. Meanwhile, 10 former Delta Devils, under Shanks, have went on to play professional baseball.

Prior to his time at MVSU, Shanks won three straight baseball high school state championships while serving as head coach at University Christian School in Brandon, Miss., a school he and his former pastor founded in 1990. He was named MAIS Coach of the Year three times (1996, 1997 and 1998). He is also a member of the Mississippi Diamond Club Hall of Fame.

Shanks is married to the former Kay Guest, of Calhoun City, and they have four children and six grandchildren.
