Alex Jackson enters his third season as a member of the Mississippi Valley State football coaching staff. This season (2013) will mark his first full year as offensive coordinator after serving as offensive line coach for more than two seasons at MVSU. He took over as interim offensive coordinator during the middle of the 2012 season.
Jackson last served as the Offensive Intern/Assistant Offensive Line Coach for the University of Arkansas. Jackson joined the Razorbacks in March, 2010, after serving a brief stint at Langston University as the Tight Ends & Tackles Coach and later moving to Co-Offensive Coordinator/Offensive Line.
A native of Quincy, Florida and 2006 graduate of the University of Georgia, Jackson was a two-year starter for the Bulldogs during the 2001 & 2002 seasons. Prior to joining the UA staff, Jackson had two stints at East Gadsden High School serving as the Co-Offensive Coordinator/Offensive Line Coach (2008-09) and Offensive Line coach (2005), Head Football Coach at James A. Shanks Middle School (2007), and gaining valuable experience as a Student Assistant at the University of Georgia (2005-06).
Prior to joining UA, Jackson briefly coached HBCU All-American tight end Tony Cotton and the offensive line at Langston University. As a student assistant at Georgia, Jackson assisted the offensive coaching staff working primarily with the offensive line on its way to the 2005 SEC Championship and two bowl appearances.
Jackson got his start in coaching, serving as the Offensive Line Coach at East Gadsden High School located in Havana, Florida for the 2004 season. During his prep coaching career, Jackson tutored numerous student-athletes that have garnered Division I football scholarships, most notably, former University of Arkansas wide receiver Lance Ray.
As a senior in 2002, Jackson started 11 games missing 1 start due to illness and 2 games due to injury, posting a total 22 career starts. In addition, Jackson was a member of the team that won Georgia's first SEC championship in 20 years, defeating FSU for the Nokia Sugar Bowl title, setting a school record for most victories in a season (13), and finished with a final national ranking of No. 3.
Furthermore, Jackson was a starter on an offensive line that paved the way for the SEC's top scoring offense (32.14), and passing efficiency offense (138.91). Jackson signed a professional contract with the Jacksonville Jaguars in 2003. Shortly thereafter, his professional career was ended due to injury. In 2009, the Macon Telegraph listed Jackson as a candidate for the University of Georgia All-Decade Team.
Nevertheless, Jackson returned to the University of Georgia and graduated with a degree in Speech Communications in 2006. In the summer of 2012, he completed a Master's degree in Education Leadership from Langston University.
